Most road trip problems are predictable and preventable. These are the rules our drivers work to, and they apply equally if you are driving yourself.
Before you leave
- Check tyre pressure, spare tyre and jack
- Confirm coolant, engine oil and wiper water levels
- Carry a phone charger, torch and basic first aid kit
- Share your route and expected arrival time with family
On the road
Rest every two to three hours even if you do not feel tired, and never drive through the night to save time. Fatigue causes more highway incidents than mechanical failure.
In the vehicle
Seat belts in the rear as well as the front. Keep bags secured rather than loose on the rear seat, and keep water within reach so nobody needs to stop unnecessarily.
